Engines of All Trades is the eighth episode of Season 2 of Sodor: The Modern Years, and the eighty-eighth episode overall.
Plot
As Evan had gone for his 5 yearly service at the works, James is brought to the Norramby Branch Line to fill in for him. He thought he was only there to pull passengers, but a message from the Vicarstown stationmaster proved him wrong.
That night, he is complaining to Owen and Edwin about this, which angers Edwin who starts to yell at James about having the opportunity to pull trucks. Being a diesel railcar and having special buffers, he is unable to pull anything other than his trailing coach.
The next morning, Owen comes up with a plan to let Evan and Edwin pull trucks and help with the increasing traffic from Vicarstown to Norramby. When Evan arrives home from the works, with a new hook and link coupling, Edwin and James are startled, but Owen explains that they can now pull passengers as well as their vehicles on a motorail wagon. James is still confused about why the diesel railcars want to pull trucks, but he does think they are really useful.
